About 42 percent of the workers in Florida's manufacture industry lack have health insurance, the highest percentage of any service sector in the state, a study released Tuesday shows.
"I knew things would be bad in the retail and services sectors," said Bruce Nissen, a co-author of the report and professor at Florida International University, "but I wasn't aware of how bad things were in the construction industry."
The report, Healthcare Coverage and Economic Status in Florida, was ready by the Research Institute on Social and Economic Policy at FIU.
Nissan’s co-authors were Emily Eisenhauer and Yue Zhang.
The report, which used U.S. Census data and other studies, said 37 percent of the workers in the service sector had no health insurance, 35 percent of those working in the services sector were without it, as were 35 percent of the workers in the hospitality sector.
