Six North Cotabato mayors and representatives of four others on Friday signed pledges of pledge for the implementation by 2007 of the Cotabato Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
Following their meeting with North Cotabato Gov. Emmanuel Piñol at AJ Hi-time Hotel in Kidapawan City, Mayors Romulo Tapgos of Arakan, Loreto Cabaya of Aleosan, Ernesto Concepcion of Alamada, Ronaldo Pader of Libungan, Herminio Roquero of Pigcawayan, and Rodolfo Gantuangco of Kidapawan urban signed the pledges.
Representatives from the towns of Makilala, Magpet, President Roxas, Matalam, and Midsayap also signed on behalf of their home chief executives.
Shirlyn Macasarte-Espuelas, chair of the Provincial Board Committee on Health, and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Rodrigo Escudero witnessed the signing.
"This will be our biggest legacy to our people," Gov. Piñol told the mayors during the meeting.
"This will free our people, especially the poor families, from the indignity of begging from local officials for financial assistance in their medical needs. It will also unburden our local governments who are spending millions for medical assistance that is not even enough for the needs of every citizen who has nowhere to go to but government," he said.
The report, published by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, found that 7 percent of Iowa children were uninsured in 2004, compare to 11 percent nationally.
