The state's new health insurance law has a costly surprise for municipalities, a requirement, which young adults be allowed to stay on a city or at the town's group health-insurance plan for up to two years longer than they were permitted previously.
The new law that legislators passed last spring now aims to help every Massachusetts resident purchase health insurance by the year 2007 July. Young 20-something adults make up a part of the state's 500,000 uninsured residents.
